TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Child Protection Commission (KPAI) commissioner Jasa Putra said that child related problems in Indonesia are high in number. In the past five years, Jasa added, there are more than 8,200 child cases that are legally processed.
Jasa mentioned the cases involve both physical and psychological abuse. "It is all about the implementation and the commitment of the people and the nation,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday, July 22.
He explained that based on reports filed to KPAI in the period of 2011-2016, there are about 23,800 child cases in nine clusters. He continued by saying that there are three groups of the most severe cases including children facing legal processes, alternative childcare and education problems.
Jasa further added that if the worst problem concerns with childcare, then we can implement local childcare pattern. He exemplified this solution through a childcare tradition in West Sumatra in which in the case of an abandoned child, the secondary family takes charge in raising the child. Jasa commented that government can revitalize the tradition to deal with childcare problems.
