Jokowi, Erdogan Discuss Qatar and Global Terrorism

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi and Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed Qatar rift and global terrorism, among others, in a bilateral meeting in Turkey.


Jokowi said that Indonesia and Turkey wish to take part in addressing global issues. "We are hopeful that it could be resolved through communication and dialogues between disputing nations," the Indonesian President said in a written statement received by Tempo on Thursday, July 6.

As for global terrorism, Indonesia and Turkey share the same views. Accordingly, the two countries have agreed to share the intelligent information and establish intelligent information technology. "To facilitate cooperation in eradicating terrorism," Jokowi said.


On the occasion, President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation to the Turkey’s government for their backing of Indonesia’s bid for a temporary UN Security Council seat for 2019-2020 term. Aside from Turkey, other countries have supported Indonesia as well.

Jokowi was on a working visit to Turkey following President Erdogan’s visit to Jakarta in 2015. At the meeting, both signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the health sector and the launch of negotiation of Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
