TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) member Muhammad Misbakhun suggested the DPR exercise its budgeting right in response to KPKs stance over the case of Miryam.

Earlier, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) rejected Miryam S. Haryani, a suspect of a perjury case related to the electronic identity card (e-KTP) procurement project, to attend an inquiry special committee meeting. National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian also expressed the same stance.

“We’re not going to cut any budgets, but the 2018 budget deliberation won’t involve the National Police and the KPK,” Misbakhun, who is also a member of the special committee (Pansus) overseeing the inquiry against the KPK, said Tuesday, June 20.

Misbakhun explained that Pansus is currently considering his proposal. He claimed that almost all Pansus members are on the same page.

“[The budgets] won’t be frozen, but in 2018, they [the KPK and National Police] won’t have budget postures,” he said.

Misbakhun indicated that the move will be maintained until the National Police (Polri) and the KPK are willing to meet DPR demands.

He explained that the budgeting right was not a threat, but the DPR's right to serve its functions.

Misbakhun said that the DPR would be ready to face the consequences, should the decision cause controversies.
