TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor-Elect Anies Baswedan announced that Jakarta citizens will be able to apply for house mortgages with zero percent down payments.

“We’ll announce the details later, it will probably be in 2018,” Anies said on Monday, June 12, 2017.

According to Anies, the zero percent down payment already exists, and he will prepare a payment scheme to be applied.

“House supplies are more than enough. Many [houses] have been built, but the payment mechanism has not been prepared. We will review this,” he said.

According to Anies, his administration will work with private sectors to provide the houses. Anies added that he is currently working on a regional regulation to be used as the legal basis for the program. However, Anies said that he would design the mechanism in the near future.

“I don’t want to talk about numbers now, the important thing is that the program will be underway. The private sector has started it despite the absence of a regional regulation,” Anies said.

Anies Baswedan is certain that the program would succeed. He argues that if the private sector can do it then the State will also be able to manage the program.
