TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two suicide bombers of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) Bandung Raya group that exploded themselves in Kampung Melayu bus terminal, East Jakarta, last Wednesday (May 24) made the explosive using a chemical compound called triacetone triperoxide.

Indonesian National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian said at the Police Hospital of dr Said Sukanto, East Jakarta, on Friday that the explosives were the kind often used by ISIS terror groups in Iraq and Syria.

He stated that the two blasts had different explosive powers. The first bomb brought by Ichwan Nurul Salam was a less powerful one. "This first explosion was used to attract attention and lure people to come together," he noted.

Furthermore, the second bomb, which was brought by Ahmad Sukri in his backpack, was a pan bomb and was more powerful. "The explosion destroyed the perpetrator's body completely," he stated.

According to Karnavian, the explosion caused by the second bomb was very dangerous as it scattered sharp objects which caused damaging effects to objects and humans who were in the vicinity of the blast area.

"There were shrapnels, bolts, buckshots, and small scissors that produced an effect like a bullet that was driven by an explosion, leading to a devastating effect," he revealed.

On Wednesday night, two explosions occurred in Kampung Melayu area, East Jakarta. The first explosion occurred at 21.00 pm local time in front of a public toilet, while the second explosion occurred at 21:05 pm local time near the Kampung Melayu Stop of Transjakarta, which was about 10 meters from the location of the first explosion.

The two suicide bombers, Ichwan Nurul Salam and Ahmad Sukri, died instantly.

In addition to the two perpetrators, three policemen were also killed in the blast.

The three policemen were 2nd Brigadier Taufan Tsunami, 2nd Brigadier Ridho Setiawan, and 2nd Brigadier Imam Gilang Adinata. They were members of First Unit of Platoon 4 of Sabhara Directorate of Jakarta's Police of Metro Jaya.

The team of Special detachment 88 of Indonesian National Police's Anti-terror and West Java's Police arrested three suspected terrorists allegedly related to the suicide bombing in Kampung Melayu bus terminal.

The suspects were J, W, and A who were arrested in three different locations in Bandung, West Java province.
