TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction on Thursday requested the House of Representatives' (DPR) plenary session to cancel its plan to launch an inquiry into the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) investigation. The party believes that the plan was decided unilaterally by the House leader.

PKS deputy chairman Ansory Siregar said on Thursday that the approval of exercise inquiry rights on April 28 by House deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah was hasty and unilateral. He said Fahri did not consider the opinion of the whole faction, and as he did not receive full approval, he has violated the House's rules.

He said PKS will not be responsible for any effort made on behalf of the party over the right of inquire against KPK. "What Fahri Hamzah did is his full responsibility, not the PKS Faction," he stressed.

He said that if the Plenary Session today decides to follow up the right to inquire, PKS will stop sending its party members to take part in upcoming discussions on the matter.

"The PKS is committed to supporting the KPK in combating corruption without favoritism, independently, and upholding the presumption of innocence principle," he said.

The proposal to use the right to inquire KPK surfaced during a hearing between DPR's Commission III and the KPK on April 19, after a number of Commission III members protested the KPK for saying that the House is involved in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) procurement scandal.

In the hearing, KPK investigators said that former Commission II member Miryam S. Haryani received pressure from several members Commission III in regards to the e-KTP scandal. The case so far has implicated dozens of politicians, including House Speaker Setya Novanto.

When the session was about to end, the House's deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah suddenly approved the House's plan to exercise its rights of inquiry, prompting a number of House members to leave the room in anger.
