TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Geopolitical Forum (JGF), held by the Indonesian National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) from May 18-20, 2017, will discuss a number of major themes, one of which is world security and peace. It will involve experts and academics from several countries.

"The Jakarta Geopolitical Forum will also discuss the issues of world economic development, social and humanitarian issues, as well as terrorism, radicalism and migration," the Governor of the Institution, Agus Widjojo, said here, Wednesday.

According to him, the event is the first forum in the world and is a response of the institution in dealing with the development of the world.

"In recent decades, the global geopolitics are moving rapidly and dynamically, so we need inputs from experts and academics who are engaged in geopolitics," he noted.

The forum is a medium for exchanging ideas, also sharing experiences among geopolitics academics and experts.

According to the Governor, the global geopolitical change trends have been affecting national resilience.

The forum will feature 22 speakers including 12 speakers from the United States, Canada, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, Austria, Britain, Turkey, Singapore, France, Egypt and five Indonesian speakers from high government institutions, ministries and government agencies, universities, state-owned enterprises, private sectors and other civil institutions.

JGF is planned to be a periodic forum and every organization is expected to produce formulas and recommendations that are beneficial to world peace," the Governor added.

He remarked that President Joko Widodo would open the Jakarta Geopolitical Forum on Thursday (May 18) at the State Palace, as well as deliver a keynote speech.

Since it was inaugurated on May 20, 1965, the Indonesian National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) has been focusing on learning and understanding national, regional and global geopolitics.
