TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commissioner of Indonesian Telecommunication Regulation Agency Ketut Prihadi said that the data tariff formula will be included in the revision to Regulation of the Communications and Informatics Minister No. 9/2008.
“The bill only regulates [tariff for] voice and short message service (SMS). Now, the formula for data tariff will be considered,” Ketut Prihadi told Tempo in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 16.
Ketut said that the formula will reveal costs of networks, retails and margins for operators. In addition, the data tariff will be calculated per minute.

According to Ketut, the data tariff is currently set based on the volume consumed, which will be converted to tariff per minute.
“Therefore, users won’t raise questions about the calculation. They have been familiar with tariff per minute,” Ketut added.
Communications and Informatics Minister Rudiantara said that he has not reviewed the revised draft bill. However, Rudiantara believes that the tariff formula will result in affordable data tariff and boost the growth of the industry.
The minister expressed that the revision to the bill will be finalized this year. Rudiantara called on the public to be patient.
“It could be this year. Just wait for it,” Rudiantara said.
