TEMPO.CO, Beijing - The Indonesian Consulate in Shanghai, China, is set to hold the Indonesia Week or InaWeek on May 20-26, 2017, in a bid to increase the number of Chinese tourist visits to Indonesia.

“This is our initiative to attract more Chinese tourists, particularly from Shanghai,” consul general of Indonesia Siti Mauludiah said in Beijing earlier this week.

Siti explained that the Indonesian Consulate will organize activities related to business, finance, and tourism in Indonesia.

Supporting the event are a number of Indonesian institutions, including the Tourism Ministry, the Trade Ministry, the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), the Education and Culture Ministry, the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), the Center for Film Development, Bank Mandiri, Garuda Indonesia, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China.

The event, she added, will feature cultural festival, fashion show, culinary festival, film festival, tourism photo exhibition, and business forum.

For business owners operating in the tourism industry, the Indonesian Consulate will facilitate a discussion between Indonesian and Chinese travel agents. Business owners of the two countries operating in the finance sector will also meet in a seminar supported by Bank Indonesia.

“InaWeek will be held in various places in Shanghai. For instance, the Indonesian product exhibition and the Indonesian Festival will be held at the Oriental Pearl Tower (OPT),” Siti added.

Boasted as the world-class city icon, the Oriental Pearl Tower is a round tower located at the Yangtze River bank.

“With the promotional activity at the OPT, we hope that foreign tourists visiting Shanghai will also visit Indonesia,” Siti said.
