TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani expects better tax compliance from palm oil firms and the owners.
“I expect better tax compliance from big players corresponding to land concession and production,” Sri Mulyani said yesterday in Jakarta. She has also called on business players against transfer pricing practice in Indonesia.
Sri Mulyani promises that the government will continue to monitor tax compliance in order to collect the appropriate amount of tax.
A study conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in 2016 found that the Directorate General of Tax had failed to properly collect taxes from palm oil industry. As a result, the KPK found underpayment amounting to Rp2.1 billion and overpayment totaling Rp10.5 billion.
KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said that compliance level of both individuals and business entities have decreased. Between 2011-2015, the number of corporate taxpayers dropped 24.3 percent. “Whereas the number of individual taxpayers slipped 35 percent,” he stated yesterday in a written statement.
