TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Directorate General of Air Transportation further explained about the latest ban on bringing a laptop into an airplane cabin. The Transportation Ministry issued the explanations about the ban on their official twitter account @djpu151.

“We would like to confirm that the regulation does not ban laptops or gadgets to be taken into an airplane cabin,” the account tweeted on Saturday, April 29.

The Directorate General of Transportation said that any electronic object brought by the passengers must be checked manually or through an x-ray machine.

They stated that electronic devices would be checked manually only when operators have doubts about certain objects passing through the x-ray scrutiny, which would be done in several steps, such as asking the owner to turn the device on to be checked.

The agency said that electronic device check-ups were part of the inspection process included in the aviation safety protocol. However, they assessed that there were no rules banning passengers from bringing their electronic devices into a commercial airplane cabin.

The United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom are the countries that apply this extra measure. The safety protocol is applied in a number of airplane companies in several Middle Eastern and Turkish airports with flight destinations to the U.S., Canada, and U.K. The passengers are prohibited to bring their laptops or similar-sized electronic devices into the airplane cabin.
