Indonesia Still Facing Quite Serious Economic Gap Issue: Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said Indonesia is still facing a quite serious economic gap issue.


Therefore, he said the Indonesian government contiues to narrow the gap through both asset redistribution policy and partnership policy.


"We want to further reduce the Gini ratio," Jokowi said in Jakarta on Saturday (22/4).


Gini ratio is an index that shows economic gap among the people. If the index drops, economic gap also declines accordingly.


Nevertheless, the President said Indonesia's economic growth is actually better than that of many other countries, especially amidst the slowdown of the global economy.


Indonesia's economic growth last stood at 5.02 percent, the third biggest one after economic growth of India and China.


Nevertheless, Jokowi said besides economic growth, economic equity must also be paid attention to.
