Celebrating Earth Day, 1000 Fishes Released into Ciliwung River

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 1,000 tilapia fishes were released in Ciliwung River and 150 productive trees planted in Ciliwung riverbank, RW 06, Pejaten Timur, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. Trees planting and fish releasing activities were held to celebrating Earth Day which usually celebrated on April 22.
Jakarta Environment Dept. Head, Isnawa Adji said that the Earth Day celebration grows our awareness about the importance of living environments by maintaining sanitation and repairing ecosystem.
"We appreciated the concern of communities, companies, and citizen toward earth preservation, especially Ciliwung," he said, Friday (4/21).
PALYJA Corporate Communications and Social Responsibilities Division Head, Meyritha Maryanie explained that the planted trees varieties were jack fruit, matoa, cannonball, cinnamon, tamarind, and walnut.
"In this activity which coincided with Kartini's Day celebration, we invite young generation to consider the importance of maintaining the environment," she closed.
