TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Incumbent Jakarta deputy governor candidate, who is running with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, was expelled from Al-Atiq Mosque in Tebet, South Jakarta, after conducting the Friday Prayer, April 14, 2017.

A person who held a microphone at the mosque called on the mass not to vote for a non-Muslim leader in the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election. When Djarot was about to leave the mosque, people shouted and told him to leave.

Djarot seemed unaffected by the incident. He said that he did not know which mosque rejected the Ahok-Djarot candidate pair. He argues that every Muslim has the right to conduct Friday prayer at any mosque.

“Every time we want to conduct a Friday prayer, we always go to a mosque near the next venue,” Djarot said in Jakarta on Friday, April 14, 2017. “We’re having an agenda in Ciracas.”

Djarot previously felt that the mass at the mosque welcomed him. People even asked him for a handshake and selfie. However, the situation changed when a caretaker of the mosque called on people not to vote for a non-Muslim leader.

“I had no problem with the people. It was the caretaker who started provoking them,” Djarot said.
