TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman aims to purchase as much as 30 thousand tons of unhusked rice per day this year.

Currently, the purchase done by the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) reaches almost 20 thousand tons of rice per day.

"Up to Friday (24/3), we purchased 18-19 thousand tons. We will raise it up to 30 thousand tons per day this April," Amran Sulaiman said on Sunday (26/3).

Amran explained that if the number is achieved, then rice stock in Bulog’s warehouse will reach 2.5-3 million tons in the next three months.

With such number, rice stock in Bulog’s warehouse will be secured until 2019.

“Rice import is no longer needed,” Amran said.

Amran further stated that today harvest and planting periods are all year round, different from the past.

Furthermore, farmers are supported by Agriculture Ministry by means of providing insurance for harvest failures, dryers in production centers, and free seedlings for farmers.

“We are making quick moves now,” Amran added.
