TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali Island has managed to achieve the best tourism destination in the world for 2017 according to the Travellers Choice Award by Tripadvisor.

Bali, as quoted from Tripadvisor website, successfully beat major competitions, including famous European countries including London, Paris, Rome, New York, Kreta, Barcelona, Siem Reap, Prague, and Phuket.

The website, however, did not provide a detailed explanation on why Bali was named as the best tourism destination. Tripadvisor has been giving awards for best tourism destination, hotels, and beaches since back in 2002.

The award was based on the assessment made by travelers from around the world. The contributing factors in the award include services, quality, and customer satisfaction level.

Chief of Bali Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI) Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana applauded the decision.

"The award belongs to all Balinese people for being nominated as the best tourism destination in the world," Agung said in a written statement on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Agung claimed that the award was special because the island managed to win in the most prestigious category: The Best Tourism Destination in the World. Agung said that previously, Bali had only won the best island and destination for the Asian region.

Unfortunately, the island's beaches were unable to be nominated as one of the world's best beaches.
