TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), will officially open train ticket bookings for the holiday exodus season on Friday, March 17, 2017. The tickets can be ordered 90 days before the departure.

President Director of PT KAI, Edi Sukmoro says that the early booking system is meant to ease the customers in planning their trip. “You can book the tickets in our internal and external channels,” he said on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

The internal channels used by PT KAI for the ticket orders include the official KAI website, the 121 call center, KAI Access application, and ticket boxes in train stations. Meanwhile, the external channels can be done through an agent, multi biller counters, and minimarkets that collaborate with PT KAI.

Edi revealed that PT KAI has improved its technology in order to face the potential hike in bookings. “We upgraded it so that our servers won’t fail under heavy load,” he said.

The Eid al-Fitr holidays will fall on June 25-26, 2017. PT KAI announced the transport period of the holidays to span for 22 days starting from June 15, 2017, up to July 6, 2017.

Edi predicts that the peak of the homecoming season will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2017, or three days before Eid al-Fitr holiday.
