TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian singer and choreographer Denny Malik is one of the people involved in the welcoming of Arab King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud to Indonesia on Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

Denny said that he was directly contacted by President Joko Widodo. "I was contacted [by President Joko Widodo] last week," Denny said to reporters on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

Denny was tasked to create two dance choreographies. "There are two dances. One dance for the lunch feast, it's called the Zapin Sumatera dance. [The dance] has a mixed touch of Malayan, Sumatran, and Arabic. Then there will be a shalawat on the backyard. We perform it before [King Salman] plant a tree as a symbol," Denny said.

Denny admitted that the request to prepare the choreographies were made in all of a sudden, he claimed to be confident in presenting the best performance.

In addition to the dances, Denny also designed the costumes for 50 of the dancers.

"Fortunately, I've had created my own Zapin dance, so I can just perform that. For the costumes, I just finished making them, Malayan costumes," Denny said.
