TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil on Sunday (19/2) inaugurated 19 sidewalk projects constructed throughout 2016 in an event centred on Ir H Djuanda (Dago) street in Bandung.
"The inauguration doesn’t involve ribbon cutting, but by walking on foot from 167 Dago street to alun-alun (field) and the marquee. Let’s walk together this morning with me," Ridwan Kamil wrote in his instagram @ridwankamil.
The mayor hopes that by repairing and widening the sidewalks each year, the culture of walking on foot will return.
"At least walking on foot in a short distance around the city. I also hope for the birth of positive social interactions in the city’s street corridors. I hope we can reach a higher level of civilization," he added.
Meanwhile Bandung city Commuication and Informatics secretary Yayan A Brillyana stated that before officiating the sidewalk projects, the mayor and his wife will conduct a morning prayer together with the residents in Buah Batu Mosque.
