TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Armed Forces commander General Gatot Nurmantyo has received a letter from the Chief of the Australian Defence Force Air Marshall Mark Donald Binskin over the insult to the national philosophy Pancasila by the Australian military.

Mr. Binskin will visit Indonesia on February 8 to submit the investigation results, according to Mr. Gatot. “[Mr. Binskin] will meet the KASAD [the Chief of Staff of the Army] and me.” Gatot said in a meeting at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

He said that Indonesia and Australia will make a decision on bilateral military cooperation in the meeting. Earlier, the TNI has decided to halt cooperation with Australia military after the revelations of the incident.

In a meeting with the House’s Defence Commission yesterday, Mr. Gatot said that the decision to halt cooperation with Australian military has been appreciated by House members. According to him, Indonesia is still open to resuming cooperation with Australian military.

As has been earlier reported, the Indonesian Special Forces Command (Kopassus) language instructor found a material that was deemed insulting to Indonesia’s philosophy of Pancasila in Australian military base.

The Australian military had apologized over the incident. It had promised to address the issue.
