TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Foreign Affairs Ministry has released an application called Safe Travel as a technology that is able to help to protect Indonesian citizens who are traveling overseas.

“With this application, Foreign Affairs Ministry will be able to provide quick assistance to Indonesian citizens in an emergency situation,” said the Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.

The application, she said, will be able to monitor the data, location, and identities of Indonesian citizens overseas.

“Proactively, eight Indonesian representatives have utilized the technology-based protection application,” Minister Retno said.

The technology-based protection has been applied at Indonesia’s Embassy in The Hague, Seoul, Bangkok, Brussels, and Singapore. As well as in Indonesia’s Consulate General in Jeddah, Hong Kong, and Tawau.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry also released a fully integrated database of Indonesian citizen overseas with data from National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI). The database of Indonesian citizen overseas is known as “E-Protection”.

“Next is integrating it with the database of the Home Affairs Ministry's Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil),” Retno said.
