TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati hopes that more people will participate in the second period of the tax amnesty program in December 2016.
“I’m hopeful that in December, people will be more interested, considering that the month of December will be quite short because there will be [national] holidays,” she said Tuesday in Bandung, as quoted by Antara.
She said that Finance Ministry will step up dissemination on the tax amnesty program in early December to improve public participation.
The Finance Minister admits lack of participation from taxpayers in the second period of the tax amnesty program, but she believes that it will improve by the end of December.
“It will be similar to that of first period. Public participation will typically improve in the last month of the period,” she said.
On President Joko Widodo’s target of 95 percent participation rate in the tax amnesty program, she said that the ministry will eye several sectors to achieve it, such as construction, real estate, mineral and coal.
“We will also target other professions such as directors, commissioners of SOEs and private firms. We also expects [more] participation from those still have to improve their compliance,” Sri Mulyani concluded.
