TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The political ethic of the Golkar Party should be really questioned.

On behalf of the decision of the plenary meeting of the Central Executive Board, the party recklessly summoned its cadre Ade Komarudin, who is the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR).

Ade was instructed to give up his position to Setya Novanto, the party’s chairman.

In fact, it was Setya who declared that he wanted to resign from his position as the DPR speaker because of the case of once implicated him.

The then minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said reported Setya the DPR Honorable COuncil because he allegedly used the names of the President and the Vice President in relation to the extension of contract of PT Freeport Indonesia.

As many as 13 members of the Council agreed that Setya had violated code of ethics, although each has different opinions: moderate to heavy violations.

The decision of the Council was made on the same day of Setya’s resignation.

Unwilling to accept the decision, Setya proposed a judicial review to the Honorable Council, and the maneuver of material review to the Constitutional Court.

At the Court, Setya questioned the validity of the proof of recording of conversation from Sudirman that allegedly contained his voice with a Freeport high-ranking official.

The material review was granted.

The Court declared that the proof of recording could not be sued in the court if it is not done by law enforcers.

Based on the ruling of the Constitutional Court, the court denied Sudirman’s report and even restored the good name of Setya.

In fact, in the Jessica’s trial for example, the judges allowed the prosecutor to use CCTV recording at the cafe as the proof to who Jessica’s position was Mirna was poisoned.

Let’s say Setya is innocent.

However, seen from the moral aspect, isn’t he ashamed if he is now re-appointed after he gave up his position?

In terms of working performance, during 15 years of his post at the DPR Speaker, Setya issued a number of controversial policies, among others proposing the project of the building of the new DPR building that was rejected during the era of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono; demanded diplomatic passports for all members of the House; and proposing aspiration funds for the members amounting to Rp 11.2 trillion.

Setya also received a light sanction in the form of reprimand because he attended the campaign of US President candidate Donald Trump, along with Fadli Zon.

If he is re-appointed as the DPR Speaker and the fractions do nothing, what will happen to the image of the DPR later on?

The move is akin to compromising the reputation of all members of the House that is possibly already tainted for some people.

Now, at least there are a few members of the DPR who strongly reject.

Or maybe we need a massive movement from the DPR members as they urged Setya to step down.
