TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is currently planning on holding the world's longest bicycle tournament. Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi, said that the new tournament will be named 'Tour de Nusantara' and hopefully, will be held starting on 2017.
Imam explained that bicycle tournament was chosen because, other than its familiarity to Indonesia's society, the competition will help encourage infrastructure developments across the country. "Later on every region can compete for the chance of being included as part of the tournament’s route," Imam said on Monday, October 31, 2016.
Imam said that the tournament will cover a total of 17.600 kilometers. "The event will be prepared as the longest bicycle tournament in the world," Imam said.
The event is scheduled to last seven months, according to Imam. The Minister also hoped that all Indonesian citizens would help to support the tournament.
