TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati hopes that the government would achieve its tax revenue target this year to secure the 2017 State Budget.
According to Sri Mulyani, the tax revenue has progressed to 60 percent of the target set at the Revised 2016 State Budget.
"The state revenue must be boosted to maintain our fiscal stability," Sri Mulyani said at the Presidential Staff Office on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.
In the Revised State Budget, the government has set a target to collect Rp 1,318 trillion (US$101.3 billion) of state revenue. By 12 October 2016, the realization of the revenue was Rp 829.3 trillion (US$63.1 billion), while the taxation shortfall stood at Rp 218 trillion (US$16.7 billion).
The Finance Ministry rolled out the tax amnesty program in July 2016 to boost the state revenue and improve Indonesia's tax base to 15 percent, from currently 11 percent, of the gross domestic product.
Sri Mulyani pointed out that the tax revenue of Rp 97 trillion (US$7.4 billion) collected from the tax amnesty program have no significant impact yet. Sri Mulyani hopes that there would be more individual, corporate and SME taxpayers participating in the second period of the tax amnesty program in October-December.
