TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Armed Forces (TNI) commander General Gatot Nurmantyo welcomed President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo Thursday at Ranai Airport in Natuna District.

The President and his entourage flew to Natuna by the Air Force’s (TNI AU) Boeing 737 Presidential Airplane.

The President was accompanied by government officials, such as chief security minister Wiranto, foreign minister Retno Marsudi and cabinet secretary Pramono Anung.

Having arrived at the airport, the President immediately inspected the Air Force Sukhoi Su 27/30, T-50i, Hawk 100 and Super Tucano as well as other defense equipment.

Jokowi also inspected the SU 27/30 advanced cockpit and wore a combat helmet on the Russian-made aircraft.

During his working visit, Jokowi will celebrate the TNI’s 71st birthday by witnessing Angkasa Yudhya 2016 military excercise, which will showcase fighter jets dropping bombs over the Natuna Sea.

The drill will also exhibit Air Force personnel’s ability in tracking and attacking a target through static line parachuting.

The Presidential Secretary official Bey Mahmudi said the President is slated to inaugurate Ranai Airport in Natuna District, following the completion of runway extension.
