Swiss Chocolate Producer Opens Factory in Gresik

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Swiss-based chocolate product maker Barry Callebaut has launched its first factory in Indonesia on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. The chocolate factory lies in Krikilan Village in East Java's Gresik Regency.


"Our new chocolate factory in Gresik is an important foundation for Barry Callebaut' strategy in strengthening our position as the market leader in the Asia Pacific region," Barry Callebaut CEO Antonir de Saint-Affrique said when launching the factory, Bisnis Indonesia reported.


Antonir said that un June 2015 Barry Callebaut agreed to a long-term agreement with GarudaFood Group, one of Indonesia's biggest F&B producers. The deal includes supplying GarudaFood with 10,000 tons of chocolate each year, as well as the formation of an operating manager from Barry Callebaut.


Barry Callebaut's new factory is 4,000 square meter in size, and is built inside Garuda Food's biscuit factory area in Driyorejo, Gresik. The factory will hire about 50 workers.


The new chocolate factory marks Barry Callebaut's expansion in Indonesia, the world's third biggest cocoa bean producer. Barry also has more than 500 workers in Bandung dan Makassar.
