Indonesia, Ecuador Agree to Boost Trade Cooperation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Government and the Ecuador Government have agreed to boost trade cooperation between the two countries, according to a press release from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

The agreement was discussed during a bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi with her Ecuadorian counterpart Guillaume Long on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Margarita Island, Venezuela on Sept. 16, 2016.

During the meeting, both foreign ministers considered that the issue of tariffs is one of the obstacles for trade cooperation between the two countries.

Therefore, both sidews agreed to encourage the implementation of the Working Group on Trade and Investment meeting in Ecuador in November 2016.

Ecuador is the seventh largest trading partner for Indonesia in Latin America.

Bilateral trade value between Indonesia and Ecuador in 2015 reached 70.1 million US dollars.
