TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Housing Ministry will develop a number of infrastructure projects to support the tourism sector in Lake Toba, North Sumatera. One of these infrastructures is the construction of a toll road connecting Medan and Tebing Tinggi.
The ministry's head for regional infrastructure development Hermanto Dardak said the toll road is divided into seven sections. "We have started constructing section six," he said in Jakarta today, August 18.
The construction of section six is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. The Medan-Tebing Tinggi toll will be the first toll project completed.
Hermanto said the government will also expand the outer ring road in Samosir Island. The project is currently in a bidding stage.
According to Hermanto, once the toll road construction operates, the drive from Medan to Lake Toba will be faster. The distance from Medan to Toba is 180 kilometers. The toll road will shorten this distance to just 116 kilometers.
