TEMPO.CO, Bojonegoro - Agus Supriyanto, head of the Bojonegoro Energy and Mineral Resources Agency in East Java, said that the Bojonegoro Regency administration had asked the central government to manage geothermal energy sources in Mount Puru and Mount Pandan.
Agus explained that the central government involvement is necessary since Mount Puru and Mount Pandan are located in three regencies, namely Bojo Negoro, Nganjuk and Madiun.
"The central government should takeover [the geothermal energy sources management]," Agus told Tempo on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.
Agus explained that the geothermal energy sources have a huge potential to generate electricity. Therefore, the Bojonegoro administration has planned to coordinate with Nganjuk and Madiun administrations.
Agus revealed that the three regional governments would hold a meeting to submit a proposal related to development of a geothermal power plant to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
Earlier, the Bojonegoro Environment Agency had taken mud samples from Kerondonan Village on Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016. Hary Susanto, head of the research and laboratory at the Bojonegoro Environment Agency, said that an air content testing showed nitrogent content of at least 0.4 ppm and carbon dioxide content of 20.9 ppm. The air content testing was conducted on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.
The mud samples were taken to the East Java Environment Agency in Surabaya to be studied further.
