168 Brimob Personnel Set to Execute Death Row Inmates

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-State Police Public Relations Division chief Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said that police stand ready to assist the attorney general’s office (AGO) in the impending third round of executions.
“I have prepared over 300 Mobile Brigade [Brimob] personnel to assist with the executions,” Martinus said in Police headquarters, South Jakarta, Thursday, July 28, 2016.
The Brimob personnel will be devided into escort teams, security teams and firing squads. According to Martinus, one death row inmate will be executed by a firing squad comprising of 12 personnel. The number of inmates to be executed are 14. Thus, 168 brimob personnel will carry out the executions.
Martinus said that the inmates had typically made a request to be executed in the evening. “It’s serene,” he said. Aside from police, the prosecutors had also prepared religious clerics, forensic doctors and coffins. The AGO had announced that the third round of executions was iminent. “If nothing’s changed, there will be 14 [inmates],” the Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said in his office, Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
