TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Chinese government has stated that it is ready to finance a 60-kilometer Medan-Kualanamu-Tebing toll road project.Tan Weiwen, Consulate General for the Economy and Finance at the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, has stated that the government is ready to disburse the funds for the project. However, he added, the project would first be thoroughly examined to measure the size of potential problems, such as land acquisition. However, in principle we are ready (to invest), Weiwen told Tempo in Jakarta yesterday (18/6).Nurdin Manurung, the Director of Toll Roads and City Roads at the Department of Public Works, has confirmed the Chinese governments investment plan. Nurdin confirmed that the department had already had meetings with representatives of the Chinese government two weeks earlier. He revealed that during the meeting, the Chinese government has already agreed to fund the Rp4.128 trillion project. Nevertheless, the meeting did not discuss the financing in details. This was only an initial discussion and not final yet, said Nurdin.According to him, the decision to join with the Chinese government is because the Indonesian government will take over the project.
