TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Foreign Ministry spokesman Armanatha Nasir said that the government will reject the decision of the International People’s Tribunal on 1965 Crimes Against Humanity in Indonesia (IPT 1965), which claimed Indonesia had proven guilty of committing genocide.
"The IPT 1965 and their activities does not have a legitimate mandate," Nasir said to Tempo Wednesday, July 20, 2016.
Nasir asserted that the IPT 1965 and its activities are not in accordance with valid law mechanism and the ongoing national process. Nasir claimed that the IPT 1965 is merely a form of freedom of speech and expression.
The IPT 1965 urged the Indonesian government to extend an apology to the 1965 massacre victims and their families. The decision also urged the government to initiate a full investigation towards the incident. In addition, the IPT 1965 also urged the government to provide compensation for the survived victims.
