TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Constitution Court Chief Arief Hidayat said that the Court has not yet scheduled a judicial review for the regional elections bill.
"To this date, no judicial review has been filed in connection with the new regional elections bill," Arief told journalists at the Presidential Palace on Monday, June 27, 2016.
Arief added that there is still time for the regional elections bill to undergo a judicial review.
"Hopefully, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will soon sign the regional elections bill. Therefore when people file a judicial review, we will have time to process it," Arief concluded.
The Independent Candidate National Movement, in collaboration with Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama's supporter group Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok), filed a judicial review against the regional election law.
The two organizations argued that two articles in the regional election can hamper independent candidates, such as Ahok, from running in the upcoming Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.
The two articles are Article 41 on requirements for independent candidates and Article 48 on the factual verification. Teman Ahok's legal counsel Andi said that Article 48 might cause disadvantages because the three-day deadline for candidate supporters to confirm and verify their support is just too short.
