TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Some 16 types of Indonesian food and beverage products turned out to be popular in Philippines. “Those products are easily found in large supermarkets in Philippines,” Indonesian Trade Attache Irawan said in Manila, Philippines, on Wednesday, June 1.
Those products include Kopiko Instant Coffee, Kopiko 78°, Fres Candy, Kopiko Candy, Energen Nutritious Milk and Cereal, Extra Joss Energy Drink, Diabetasol Nutrition for Diabetic, and Diabetamil Cookies and Nutritious Drink for Diabetics. And also Indomie Instant Noodles, Mitra Cooking Oil, Bimoli Cooking Oil, Kara Coconut Milk, You C-1000, Oreo Cookies, Tiger Biscuits, and Fruit Tea.
Irwan believes that those food and beverage products have good potential market in Philippines. “Philippines is one of the countries in ASEAN with huge and consumptive population, so the absorption of Indonesian food and beverage products have great opportunity here,” said Irawan.
One of the biggest supermarket in Manila, SM Hypermart, sells many Indonesian products, including cooking oils, coffees, instant noodles, and biscuits.
For cooking oil, the competition is pretty tight with coconut oil, as Philippines is one of the largest coconut producer, said Irawan.
In addition to food and beverage products, another Indonesian product that is quite popular and became the largest foreign exchange income is automotive, including Toyota Avanza and Innova.
