TEMPO.CO, Cikarang - As education helps to improve public welfare, it will lead to a national awakening, Vice President Jusuf M. Kalla stated.

Today, on May 20, Indonesians commemorated National Awakening Day, which should begin by prioritizing education, Kalla noted, Friday.

"Education will help to develop new technologies and later innovations, which will improve public welfare," he affirmed.

The vice president was in Cikarang to attend the 25th anniversary of PT Panasonic Healthcare Indonesia, coinciding with National Awakening Day.

The Indonesian government pays equal attention to educational and health programs, according to Kalla.

The government supports players in the health industry, such as Panasonic Healthcare Indonesia, which produce high-tech medical equipment.

Electronics and information technology, in particular, have made rapid progress, and industries failing to catch up, will be left behind, he remarked.

"Therefore, research and cooperation with companies are necessary," he added.
