TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Maritime and Fisheries Ministry has found a number of violations in the reclamation project of 17 man-made islets at the Jakar Bay. Agung Sedayu Group subsidiary PT Kapuk Naga Indah had been found building Island C and Island D without a 300-meter separator canal.

“The islands should have been built separately,” Bramantya Satyamurti, director general of sea spatial management at the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry, told Tempo on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

According to Bramantya, the reclamation project must refer to the design set forth in Presidential Regulation No. 54/2008 mandating that that reclamation islands in Jakarta must be separated with a 300-meter canal.

Based on the bill, the Jakarta administration issued Governor Regulation No. 121/2012 on North Jakarta Coast Spatial Planning, signed by former Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo on September 9, 2012.

The Ministry also found several violations in Island L and Island P. The two islands, Bramantyo explained, was merged with Jakarta land, although the Presidential Regulation clearly stated that reclamation islands must be separated from the main land in order to prevent sedimentation in estuaries.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Development Planning Agency head Tuty Kusumawati defended developers by saying that Island L merged with the main land since it had been developed since 1990. Tuty claimed that the reclamation island merged with the land before Presidential Regulation No. 54/2008 was issued.
