TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police must immediately investigate and arrest the perpetrators of crimes committed in a streak and randomly done in Central Java and Yogyakarta.

Letting this case uninvestigated will only make the people anxious because they will not feel safe.

In the period of April 6 to April 20 this year, at least 13 people became the victims of shooting incidents in Magelang, Central Java.

Twelve victims were all female.

They sustained abraded, bruises, and swollen in their waists, legs, and chests.

From the accident scene, the police found bullets allegedly from the rifle of the perpetrator.

The absences of eyewitnesses, photographs, or CCTV recording bring difficulties to the in investigating this case.

Recently, similar crimes also happened in Yogyakarta.

In one day, on Monday last week, three Kotagede and Umbul Harjo residents were injured by the stabbing of a sharp object when they were walking home.

The incident happened at around 12:00-13:00 local time.

All the victims were female and one of them was even still a sixth grader of a primary school.

In the stabbing incident, the perpetrator’s figure was recorded through a CCTV although it was not clearly seen.

The residents also chased the perpetrators who did his action in Kotagede.

From a number of testimonies, it can be concluded that the perpetrator is a man whose aged around 40 years old, rode a motorcycle, wore beard and wore a shabby jacket.

Crimes with random patterns are quite difficult to disclose because the victims are also random.

The motive is not revenge or economic reasons but only to find satisfaction from hurting others.

The perpetrators also did not recognize and choose their victims, but based on opportunities only.

The problem is, the psychopaths can be anybody, from a gangster to a nerdy scientist.

Although it is hard, law enforces may not give up easily.

The shooting incident in Magelang that happened foe two weeks in a row without anticipation form the police must be questioned.

The police reason that the victims were late in reporting the case so the police found difficulties handling the case may not be raised again.

The police must do introspection.

What made the residents delay reporting the crime after the incident took place?

The residents might be unwilling to deal with the police because they are worried that it will in fact put them in trouble.

In fact, the victims must realize that reporting crimes that happen to them is part of the obligation because crimes with the same method can also happen to others if they are no immediately addressed.

Regional governments can take part in preventing this kind of crime.

Increasing surveillance cameras in public places will make prospective criminals think twice over before materializing their intention.

Increasing the number of lights in every corner of the city is also useful to give a sense of safety for the public.

Both the government and the people must work hand in hand to complete this alarming case.
