TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An online petition, addressed to the National Commission for Human Rights and the House of Representatives and posted on Petisionline.net, calling on people to reject the legalization of lesbian, homosexual, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues has attracted massive attention.

The statistics of the petition shows that it was made in July 5, 2016, attracting a huge number of people signing it. To this date, nearly 150,000 people have signed the petition from 71,756 IP addresses.

Jakarta is the city with the highest number of people signing the petition at 24,269, or 16.28 percent of the total signatories. Bekasi and Depok have gathered more than 9,000 signatures each. Depot, which was previously expected to be the most LGBT-friendly city, contributes 7,228 signatures.

Until Friday, February 12, 2016 at 04.30, a total of 29,830 comments against the LGBT issue were posted on the website.

“No human is born as gay. Using human rights to justify this behavior is stupid and harmful to moral values,” a supporter of the petition wrote.

Another signatory commented that LGBT was against human nature, and that God created humans in pairs.

The petition has been a popular topic as people spread it through a chat application WhatsApp. In a broadcast message on the app, the petition quoted news published on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 on Tempo.co entitled “LGBT Community Files Lawsuits against Research and Technology Minister and Ridwan Kamil. Tempo has not been able to identify the initiator of the petition.
