TEMPO.CO, Banda Aceh - The Banda Aceh City Government will build a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) worth Rp100.9 billion, funded by the state budget. This will be a multi-year project, scheduled for completion in 2017.
The project was approved following Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Sa'aduddin Djamal's success in lobbying the Ministry of Public Works.
"We will start the project this year. It will comprise of four zones; and we will take on two projects first. The first phase of the pipe installation starts in Peuniti and ends in Gampong Jawa," Illiza said after meeting Dodi Krispatmadi, director of PPLP at the Public Works Ministry's Directorate General of Human Settlements, Thursday, January 28.
Illiza said that with the WWTP Banda Aceh's household waste will be processed using a more modern system to produce fertilizers and methane gas that can be utilized by people of the city.
"Household waste such as wastewater and excrements will no longer need to be picked up by garbage trucks, because the home pipe installation (SR) is directly connected to the main pipes; making things more convenient," Illiza said.
For the initial stage, he added, the city government and the Public Works Ministry are targeting to install 2,000 pipelines. He hopes that Banda Aceh residents will understand the functions and benefits of the use of this pipeline. "We will disseminate this project information to the residents," he said.
