TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-A member of the Indonesian Teacher Federation Council (FSGI) Donny Koesoema recommended teachers competence test (UKG) to be separated with teachers’ prosperity factor.

“When it is connected to prosperity it can be seen as a form of manipulation and teachers only try to pass it without any quality improvements,” said Donny after a discussion on the first year evaluation of Joko Widodo’s government on education, in LBH Jakarta office, Sunday, October 25.

According to Donny, UKG is held to map teachers’ ability. However, he said, UKG today is believed to threaten teachers’ prosperity with certifications as its consequence. “What happens today is, if UKG is below 5,5 teachers won’t get the certification,” he said.

Secretary General of FSGI, Retno Listyarti, claimed this UKG policy is merely ministry’s project. “It is like a project, [it is] hard for teachers,” she said. She mentioned that UKG is not able to properly measure teacher’s capacity.
