TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-President Joko Widodo instructs Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said to finalize the cooperation commitment between Pertamina and an Iranian oil company during a working visit to Iran.
“As instructed by the president, [the visit objective is] finalization of the cooperation in the energy sector, between NOC Iranian with Pertamina," Sudirman said at the Presidential Palace Complex on Tuesday, October 13.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources said he had reported the planned working visit to the Middle East to the President Jokowi. On Tuesday evening, Sudirman will leave for Iran.
Concrete form of cooperation, he added, will include construction of power plants, as well as cooperation in of crude oil supply and oil-based fuel, which will be detailed in contract. However, Sudirman said he cannot reveal the investment and trade cooperation value between Indonesia and Iran.
"I think what should happen in this visit, technically is how the relationship between Pertamina and NOC will be,” he added.
Indonesia is also exploring a follow-up in natural gas cooperation with Iran for the fertilizer industry development.
In 2007, Jusuf Kalla, who was then the Vice President met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to discuss plans for the establishment of a fertilizer plant in Iran. Iran has natural gas potential that can be used in the fertilizer industry.
At the time, discussions had reached technical issues with PT Pupuk Sriwijaya, Palembang and price of gas input. Unfortunately, the cooperation was hampered by banking services issues as there was an economic sanction on Iran.
