TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), ensured the drilling period of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) can be finished in 2016. At this time, the tunnel has been drilled along 12 meters. The process keeps running seven days and 24 hours.

"The drilling period could be finished in the end of 2016," he said while accompanying President Joko Widodo visiting the project at Pemuda Statue, Senayan, Thursday (10/8).

The integrated station will be constructed right after the drilling period is done. "This transport will integrate with other mode," he added.

Two drilling rigs have arrived in early August. One rig has been placed in Pemuda statue, Senayan, Central Jakarta. The other one is being assembled in Cakung, East Jakarta.

The rig length is 80 meter with 6.7 meter of diameter. Rig shipment must be separated in parts and then re-assembled again in Jakarta.

Drilling phase is started in Pemuda Senayan statue towards Setiabudi to prepare the tunnel construction.
