TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission VII—whose work covers energy, research and technology as wee as environment—said that the House is planning to revise the National Energy Policy (KEN.) Commission chairman Kardaya Warnika said there are a number of points in the Policy that needs improving.
"Due to several development issues and so forth, there needs to be improvement," Kardaya said after attending a KEN event at the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta, September 17.
Kardaya did not elaborate on what KEN points will be revised. He said that the DPR still has to discuss things with the National Energy Board.
"Some things also need to be added. The energy issue is important," he added.
National Energy Board member Alexander Sonny Keraf disagrees with the DPR's plan to revise the KEN. He reasoned that reformulating the bill would take a long time.
"There are many other laws that require changes; why must KEN [be changed]?" he said.
The National Energy issued the KEN through Government Regulation (PP) No.79/2014. The policy was signed by the President at the time, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Since then, the KEN has been used as a reference in energy management, and it is planned to be so until 2050.
