TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Palekko rice, coto Makassar, sop saudara, and pisang ijo still stole the spotlight at Makassar Culture and Culinary Festival which was held at Fort Rotterdam, Makassar starting from August 22 to 23. The culinary booths had always crowded by foodies.

Around 20 booths are rowing along the street nearby the Chapel Fort Rotterdam. Not only Makassar distinctive dish, but also the booth selling Betawi’s kerak telor was full of people. Some visitors were busy taking photos of the dish. One portion of kerak telor, which is made of duck eggs, was sold for Rp20,000.

In addition to the culinary bazaar, the festival also presented variety of traditional games such as asing-asing, lompat karet, and egrang (stilt walking). The games were organized by Makassar Jalan Jalan Seru Community.

“The games require strategy and communication, as well as team work,” said Rukman, a school teacher who participated in the game.

Rukman believed that traditional games are good for children development, to help practicing their motor skills.

Terracotta painting artist Zainal Beta also participated in the event. He displayed a number of painting made of clay depicting history and traditions existing in South Sulawesi.
