TEMPO.CO, Malang - Road access from Malang to tourist destination Mount Bromo is being shut down temporarily starting from August 15 to December 15. Head of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), Ayu Dewi Utari said the 2.5-kilometer access is in very bad condition and needs to be repaired.
“The road condition is severely damaged and is not comfortable for tourist. Even riders have to push their motorcycles down from Jemplang to the sea of sands and return. It can be a hazard for the tourist if left as it is,” said Ayu to Tempo on Sunday, August 2.
According to Ayu, an Rp4-billion fund will be allocated by the central government via the Environment and Forestry Ministry to cover potholes on the wretched road. The plan also includes thickening of the road up to 20 centimeter and widening the road to 4-5 meters.
“As a short-term effect, people’s transportation will be disrupted. But in the long term, there will be more tourists coming to Bromo from Malang. Meanwhile, route to Mt Semeru remains open,” said Ayu.
As an alternative, Ayu suggests that tourists take other route to Bromo via Pasuruan Regency.
“Tourists can walk from Wonokitri to Penanjakan to enjoy charming view of Bromo and its surrounding,” Ayu explained.
