TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mas Achmad Santosa, Chief of the Anti Illegal Fishing Task Force said that 59 fishing companies operating a total of 173 ships may be subject to sanction for violating fishing regulation. The violations were discovered following an analysis and evaluation conduction during the moratorium of foreign fishing ships permit. "The companies are located around Jakarta and Benoa, Bali," said Ota – Mas Achmad Santosa's nickname – to Tempo on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
Ota said that the ships' owners will receive various sanctions, starting from administrative sanctions up to permit revocation. Some of the violations listed include not activating the ships vessel monitoring system and operating without proper licenses.
Ota added that the Anti Illegal Fishing Task Force has drafted a road map on marine and fisheries sector development in preparation for the termination of the foreign ships moratorium.
Several points included in the road map are the amendment of the Fishery Law, ship registration based on good governance principle and improving port control.
