Vegetable Prices in Bandung Skyrocket

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Prolonged drought have prompted vegetable prices to skyrocket. Price hikes also occur in Kosambi Market at Ahmad Yani Street, Bandung, West Java, on Monday, July 27.
According to Iyah, 60-year-old vegetable merchant in Kosambi Market, say vegetable prices skyrocket due to the prolonged drought resulting in a harvest decrease.
Commodities that experience in an increase are vegetables. Bean prices is up from Rp10,000 to Rp20,000 per kilogram. Cucumber is up from Rp8,000 to Rp14,000 per kilogram. Jengkol (Archidendron pauciflorum) is up from Rp40,000 to Rp60,000 per kilogram.
Besides vegetables, rice is also experiencing a price surge, although not too significant. Rice prices is up by Rp500 for every type. According to merchants, rice prices is up because farmers can not grow rice during the dry season.
Chili and onion are experiencing a decrease in prices. Tanjung red chili is down from Rp50,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram. Domba chili is down from Rp80,000 to Rp40,000 per kilogram. Red onion is down from Rp30,000 to Rp26,000 per kilogram.
Not only vegetables, meat prices in Kosambi Market is also experiencing a hike. Meat prices are up by Rp10,000 to Rp15,000 per kilogram.
Meat prices continue to rise ranging from Rp120,000 to Rp150,000 per kilogram.
