Water Shortage Hit Bogor, Many Contract Water-born Disease

TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Prolonged draught that hit Bogor, West Java, has brought about water shortage to thousands of residents in the area.
It is also reported that because the residents found it difficult to get clean water, many residents have been forced to use river water for daily use such as washing clothes and shower.
However, poor quality of the water has caused residents contract rash and skin diseases.
"Well water has dried up. For shower, washing clothes, and other needs, we are forced to used water from the river,” said Amar, a resident at Jonggol district, Bogor regency on Friday (24/7).
Besides having skin diseases, Amar said that he and his family have also had diarrhea.
For the record, almost all residents in Bogor are currently using water from Sungai Cipamingkis river. Although water debit in the river is low and is of bad quality, the residents were forced to user the water.
"We have no choice. It’s difficult to get clean water,” Amar said, adding that he and the rest of the people in his village have not received aids from Bogor regency government.
