TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sushi is gaining more popularity as favorite dish long queues are often seen at Jakarta’s sushi restaurants. From the ones served on moving conveyor belt at Genki Sushi to the hand-made ones offered at Itacho, sushi has shifted from youngsters favorite to family dish.


There are three main types of sushi commonly offered at the restaurants:


1. Nigiri Sushi


This is the most common type of sushi. It consists of two parts, rice and topping called sashimi. Initially, the toppings are normally variety of raw fish and its eggs. Nowadays, however, more topping variations are offered by restaurants such as cooked chicken and dusk meat.


2. Maki Sushi


Maki sushi is a type of sushi that has nori, dried seaweed. This type of sushi can be made into other sushi according to its shape. Temaki sushi, for example, is maki sushi having shape of a cone.


3. Sushi Roll


Sushi roll is also known as fusion sushi, a modern version of sushi. It can be served with salty soy sauce or mayonnaise. California roll is the most well-known sushi roll.
